Royal Riff

I have to admit that I’m not a Royal’s fan.  They haven’t been in my thought processes for quite a few years although the last time I went to see them, it was quite titillating as the game went into extra innings and I scarfed up the Beer & Brat $4.00 special.  I was passing through Kansas City and decided to catch a ballgame since…....what?  What do you mean cut?  What’s that?  Wrong Royals?  What do you mean the British Royals?  I didn’t know they had a baseball team.  Okay, okay I’m sorry, my bad.  You want my take on the scandal of the week and all the hoopla about those other Royals?  That’s going to be a tough one as I know a lot about baseball, but don’t know squat about “those Royals”.  Hmmm, looks like my editor wants me to start with QE2 and the House of Windsor.  I know about QE2, a descendant of QE1 and a fine maritime vessel.  I have relatives that have sailed her to……huh?  Cut again?  Oh, QE2 the Lady, not the boat.  You have me there again as I know more about boats than I do about ladies, but I’ll give it a shot.

I was fairly well tied up with my daily to-do-list of sleeping in till noon, letting the cats out to play on the freeway, going on liquor runs, cleaning out my sock drawer and sassing back to authority, so I missed the Interview of the Decade.  Seems our Senior Royal, Lady Oprah sat down with the “renegade couple” from across the pond who are now residing in Cal-i-for-ni-a.  According to the Nielsen ratings, close to 18 million people tuned in to help CBS win the ratings war.  My humble apologies for not contributing to the war effort.  In fact, CBS came in 1st for the week as their top tier programming garnered over 45 million viewers.  Those are pretty good numbers, but it was no Ed Sullivan Show on February 9th, 1964 when 73 million folks tuned in to see and hear the start of “The British Invasion” and yes, I did contribute to that one.  Oprah’s Harry & Meghan interview lasted 2 hours and it isn’t so much the interview that is occupying the social scuttlebutt going around, it’s the backlash and holie molie the shit has royally hit the fan!  As I had already mentioned, I had no preoccupation with British Royalty.  If I had seen any photos of them, I knew who they were, but had no infatuation with them whatsoever.  Liz looked pretty and seemed like a nice lady, her spousal unit Phillip seemed a gentleman.  I liked Andrew, he looked like me, he was cute but his older brother wasn’t.  Anyway, the years went by with no fanfare on my part and nothing interesting about that bunch until 1981 when Lady Di entered the picture.  She was interesting.  She seemed real, you know, like someone who lived in the real world.  I felt sorry for her getting involved with Prince Uncharming.  Eventually, it was not meant to be.  She had to surrender her life to them and she didn’t have a chance.  However, there is hope for her youngest as he and his Lady Fair have escaped the surly bonds of imprisonment and made a break for it.  They have turned the House of Windsor on its royal tiara and more dirty laundry will be hanging out to dry!  Stay tuned…..!

  1. Mickie, well you've done it now!!! You got your cousin-in-law to actually read a blog and my first letter in 2021. Who writes letters anymore- Mickie does!!! Thank you again this year for your always entertaining family update!🤣!

As to your blog, well except for your view on the Royals, I agree with very little you say. However, my take on it is- if a blog entertains and elicits thought the author has done thier job... So my hat's off to you for that!

Keep writing! I'll read and one day you and I can go head to head about my thoughts on all the "bench warmers" waiting for that next set of weekly stimulus checks!!!
