Uncommon Failure

Okay, I’ll let you all be the judge and jury of the following statement that I came across that was buried in the dark corners of the internet where I usually find my strange and highly unusual articles of confoundation.  This is a Los Angeles Times letter to the editor (https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2021-04-12/huntington-beach-ku-klux-klan) about the “burb” of Huntington Beach.  Headline: “Common ground with the Ku Klux Klan?  Huntington Beach has a problem.”  The letter starts off with, “As Huntington Beach was preparing for a Ku Klux Klan rally and, in response, a Black Lives Matter counter protest, police department spokesman Lt. Brian Smith said,” now here’s the kicker, “We hope that they can utilize events like this as a means to find the common ground and work together for the common goal.”  ???  I thought I would substitute the usual WTF that usually follows an incredulous statement like that with question marks.  I never pass up the chance to be an innovator.  Anyway, I had to stare at that and read it again.  I probably had a look on my face that would be akin to a waitress asking me if I would like some ketchup with my banana cream pie.  Of course, the letter went on to exclaim as to what kind of common whatever can even be remotely found when dealing with the KKK?  It also went on to say how that area is becoming inundated with all sorts of MAGA type element characters of ill repute.  I used to hang out in that area back in the 60’s when I was stationed at Edwards A.F.B. up in the Mojave Desert.  Back then, the biggest conflict was trying to find a common ground between fans of The Beach Boys and The Doors.

I read the rest of the article and came to realize as to how similar it was to the articles that I have been pounding out these past few months.  Think about it, there are many combos that go together such as, Abbott & Costello, Laurel & Hardy, Martin & Lewis, Simon & Garfunkel to name a few, but Black Lives Matter & the KKK?  This oxymoron leads us to today’s ultimate banana cream pie & ketchup contrast: Democrats & Republicans!  These 2 entities have gone way beyond The Beach Boys & Doors stuff.  I believe that the “Dems” cannot and will not mix with the “Pubs” for 1 simple reason: The “Pubs” do not have the ability to mix even with each other!  There are way too many factions that have surfaced in the last 4 years that it has now become geophysically impossible for them to reunite into 1 cohesive group.  Some of you Sullie suitors out there may recall an article entitled “Suicide Squad” in which I announced the demise of the Republican Party.  This uncommon failure doesn’t appear to be going quietly into the night.  They are certainly keeping me up at all hours writing about their entertaining antics.  As for the “Dems” they prefer that the “Pubs” keep distracting each other and stay out of the way so they can get some work done.  I actually fantasize, among other things, the day that the Republican Party actually grows a set of coolionies and tosses “Golden Boy” out with the rest of the garbage.  The old pharts would certainly like to see him crash and burn along with the “Dirty Dozen” I keep pointing out.  You may ask yourself, “Geez Sullie, what will you write about, then?”  Easy Peasy, I’ll just take it all to a publisher and put all this malarkey in book form and retire. Yeah, I know, don’t stick my you-know-what up my you-know-where as my arm will eventually rot off at the elbow.  I may have just gotten off the boat, but I own the boat.  Stay tuned…..!
