One Trick Phony

I have to admit that my denigration of Senator Ron Johnson (R) Wisconsin, a target that I have delved into a time or twenty in the past has been very enjoyable and exhilarating.  I’m not saying that it supersedes tearing apart other Republicans, I’m just saying that Ron Jon is still in the running as “Pub” Flub of the year, not to be confused with Jimmy Kimmel’s nomination that Marjorie Taylor Greene be named worst person of the year.  Although these two honors are closely related, they are two separate awards.  I cannot think of anything he has made headlines over that has been even remotely favorable to me, until today.  Okay, okay, yes he was the only one in the chamber to sit through the mundane 628 page readout of the Bailout Bill yesterday, nice trick, but he had no choice and had to stay there till after midnight playing with his phone since he is the one who objected.  All that was, was a typical delaying tactic that the wealthy can use to keep the downtrodden, downtrodded.  What he did next is something I didn’t see coming.  He made an inference that he may not run in 2022.  Whoa!  Not that this is earth shattering and anything like another Johnson character back in March of 1968 when he announced he was not going to seek another term as our president.  Ron Jon thinking of retiring?  Hmmm.  Okay, I can go along with that, sssssoooorta…..!

Even though I agree that he should join Trump in the ranks of the unemployed and they can play golf together and complain about their enemies, however, I prefer to see that played out under different terms.  And just would all that entail?  Easy enough, just run again and suffer a significant defeat.  Come on Ron, you can do it.  Take one for the team.  Crash and burn and go out in a blaze of glory.  Think about it, you can leave all that ballyhoo behind and vanish, off into the sunset.  Yeah sure!  Wishful thinking on my part.

I did some research and ran across an item that he was first elected in 2010 and in that same item, he was only going to run for re-election just once, so that now puts him 1 over par.  I’m sure reality will set in and 2 over par will look even more attractive.  You know what happens in this game, you get comfortable.  Besides, being the only statewide elected Republican in the state of Wisconsin has to tickle him, sort of an outnumbered them against me underdog approach.  Alas, he’s a “Pub” and has fallen in with the ne'er do well fringe crowd of conspiracy quackery.  I don’t trust him at all.  Come to think of it, yeah, maybe it’s better that he pulls the plug on himself and vacates the area.  I can imagine if that were to come to pass, there will be a collective sigh of relief, even in the elephant herd, not to be heard from again.  Stay tuned…..!

Uncommon Failure

Okay, I’ll let you all be the judge and jury of the following statement that I came across that was buried in the dark corners of the internet where I usually find my strange and highly unusual articles of confoundation.  This is a Los Angeles Times letter to the editor ( https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2021-04-12/huntington-beach-ku-klux-klan ) about the “burb” of Huntington Beach.  Headline: “Common ground with the Ku Klux Klan?  Huntington Beach has a problem.”  The letter starts off with, “As Huntington Beach was preparing for a Ku Klux Klan rally and, in response, a Black Lives Matter counter protest, police department spokesman Lt. Brian Smith said,” now here’s the kicker, “We hope that they can utilize events like this as a means to find the common ground and work together for the common goal.”  ???  I thought I would substitute the usual WTF that usually follows an incredulous statement like that with question marks.  I never pass up the ...

The New Cult

Past cult leaders the likes of Sun Myung Moon, David Koresh and Jim Jones, exemplary role models for “Moonies”, “Davidians” and “Peoples Templers” are said to have had a charismatic  gift of gab and were able to ensnarl a whole slew of followers into their realm.  They, of course, have since passed into the great beyond.  Moon was 92 when he died of pneumonia, Korish was 33 when he and his zealots died with guns blazing and Jones 47, died with his lemmings from a bad dose of kool-aid.  There was a rumor going around that his last words were, “Hey, did someone spike this stuff!”   Like Stalin, Hitler and Atilla the Hun, these folks had the innate ability to sway the masses.  To this day, I still can’t figure out how.  I was more enamored with garden slugs than those “coots.”  Nowadays, we have a new malady in our midst, an anomaly if you will, who not only doesn’t have a gift of gab, but cannot even enunciate words correctly, uses alternative facts...
