Hang Fox Noose
I pride myself in my balancing act when it comes to the News with 98 and 44/100ths percent of the info I observe is viewed on my laptop computer screen. I check out all sorts of articles posted by all the radio, television, newspaper, magazine and wire services. Days can go by without my even turning on the TV, since I don’t watch any kind of regular programming. It is said that the Golden Age of television ended by 1960. One of my favorite phrases by a government employee was uttered back in 1961 when Newton Minow, chairman of the FCC said, “Television is a vast wasteland.” We are inundated today with so many network news programs plus programs, in general, that we can quietly keep constantly clicking closed caption cable clusters of channels at our fingertips, something that was not available in the 50’s. Lately, however, I seem to be rushing around trying to locate the misplaced remote on account of an ominous news flash. A week ago, it was Georgia and yesterday it was Colorado. We keep holding our breath over what exactly is going to happen next.
It seems as though we are becoming more and more insensitive to the shootings that have and are taking place across the country as those events, astonishing as they may be, are becoming more and more expected as to where the next one is going to take place and when will I need to find the remote to catch the next round of deadly news. Not to sound callous here, but there is a personal upside in flipping through channels now as I have the remote in plain sight, plus there is one less channel that I will need to tune in to. I checked different outlets, as usual, during the briefing of the Colorado shooting spree. I flipped through the various outlets to see who had the best camera angle and clarity and when I got to Fox News, they weren’t covering it so I moved on. After a little bit with CNN, I flipped some more and tried Fox again to see if they caught up. Nope! Now we fast forward to this evening and I’m doing my normal leisurely laptop surfing so’s I can maybe find another offbeat goofy news item to dissect, hoping it’s about some Republican I have yet to denigrate when “lo and behold” is a headline from the Salon news and opinion website stating, “Fox News did not cover Boulder Presser during primetime!” Wha? Okay here we go, I found the goofy shit I’ve been looking for, so thank you Fox News, you’ve pulled through once again. I read on and the article stated that Fox did not cover the 1st press briefing, opting instead to discuss the stair tripping incidents of President Biden and the so-called farce of social distancing, but they did mention the shooting later to downplay gun violence. So who exactly is in charge over there? I suspect there are too many Queens and not enough worker bees. (The previous statement is a more politically correct version that will replace the “Too many chiefs and not enough Indians” one.) Well that settles it. One less click on the remote now as Fox News is going by way of the do-do bird. I’m thinking about printing up a slogan for a t-shirt or bumper sticker that repeats “Hang Fox Noose” over and over with the words starting off huge but diminishing in size. Whaddya think? Stay tuned…..!
Hang Fox Noose, Hang Fox Noose, Hang Fox Noose
