Fools Rush In

Rush Limbaugh turned out to be a cult hero to many folks.  He seemed to relish his lifestyle having delved into the world of controversy.  It was a code he lived by.  He died ten days ago on February 17th a little over a year after receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom on February 4, 2020.  He was 70 years old. The PMF is not to be taken lightly, that is, until the recent Trump years.  This award has been given to a Nobel Peace Prizer, a Grammy Hall of Famer, a Congressional Gold Medalist, a Spingarn Medal recipient, a Nehru Award for International Understanding recipient, a Margaret Sanger Award winner and a speech articulating Dreamer.  Heady company and that’s just one guy and these are just a few of the honors bestowed upon him in his short 39 years of life.  Now in order to be fair here, I don’t know much of anything about Rush Limbaugh, but I know quite a bit about Martin Luther King, Jr. and comparatively speaking, what I know about Limbaugh is more than I need and what I know about King is not enough.  Not much of a comparison between the two and you can boil it down to the fact that King was a humanitarian and Limbaugh was a racist-pig!

So, do you think MLK would toss the PMF away, then?  Nah!  He had way too much class.  What he would probably do instead is have a press conference and make a statement that the award has become a watered down version of its original intent and say something to the effect, “This award has evolved from the ideals of character content to circus clown!”  To make matters worse, Limbaugh’s ideals are shaping up to be the dictum of the Republican Party.  As I had mentioned, I know little to nothing about him and what I do know is quite enough thank you.  I know he was a conservative radio personality and I was fine with that, but a trash talker and a close friend of Trump, well, you gotta draw the line somewhere.  And I was fine with him being a self-made individual with a work ethic, but what he flaunted was pure unadulterated racism.  He had a gift of gab just like Trump, with a huge following of fans called ditto-heads, but like his oompa-loompa pal, I couldn’t abide by the cut of their jib, you know, birds of a feather who lie together.  I realize that since I wasn’t ever interested in his politics, antics and verbiage, I was at a loss on what to write about for this article.  However, it didn’t take long to see that this guy is shrouded in controversy so controversy it is.  I confess, I didn’t get too far into some of those bookmarked racist remarks when I realized I need not go any further.  Now I hear there is flak down in the Sunshine State where Gov. DeSantis has ordered the flags to be lowered to half-mast.  Chees!  I give up and will end this debilitating diatribe of desultory dictum with an epitaph for his legacy which will include a quote from a certain 19th Century Politician:  Here Lies Rush Hudson Limbaugh lll, Ditto-Heads Conservative Political Commentator who had the self-infused talent and ability in that “Every time he opened his mouth, he subtracted from the sum total of human wisdom!”  Stay tuned…..!
