D-Day +2

By June 8, 1944, the Beach Head of Normandy, France was turned into an Allied hubbub of activity.  The Germans had to concede to the Allies and make a retreat, lest they be overrun.  We advance another 76 years to D-Day +2, 2020 and we find Trump retreating to the White House, escaping from the rest of the country after his ludicrous remarks on election night about how he had already won the election.  Well, the Beach Head has been established by the Allies and they have obtained 264 electoral votes to 214 for the Axis Powers and there will be no conceding, not  now or ever.  The best we can hope for is that Trump will take his golf clubs and go home, but I can’t imagine this guy going quietly into the night!  He’s a bugger, or is it booger, you know one of those things on the end of your finger that you shake and shake and can’t get rid of.  He is in a position that is completely foreign to him, alone with no one to bail him out.  It sure can be lonely at the top.  There are so many things about him and his administration that have absolutely bugged me these past 4 years and I need not repeat them now since they have been repeated time and time again, but the one vital element that is missing from the public eye in Trumpville, is the sense of family.  We had always seen family photos of the Presidents in more informal surroundings where they can let their hair down with plenty of smiles to go around: The Eisenhowers at their farm near Gettysburg, the Kennedys at Hyannisport for some sailing and touch football, the Johnsons at their ranch in Texas for some hunting and barbeque, the Nixons at San Clemente for a little golf, the Fords, Carters, Regans, Bushes, Clintons, Obamas all at their homes or get-away places with family & friends.  The photos of them weren’t staged photo-ops, they were just casual photos of them enjoying each other’s company.  Not so in Trumptown as it all seemed to be very stiff and business-like. The word I would use to describe the character of the Trump era is “Morose.”  This moroseness is what has permeated this entire country for this entire presidential term.  Tomorrow is day 4 and hopefully, this ballot counting will end and we can get into the next phase.  Like Yogi Bera always said, “It’s never over till it’s over!”, however, there is a shred of light at the end of the tunnel.....stay tuned!
