Us vs Them

I am the first to admit that I have done some really strange things in my life.  Most of them turned out to be a little unfortunate or easily forgettable and some I overshot on and they turned out to be rather remarkable.  The result I was looking for mostly, was simply to have a copacetic effect.  Positivity is usually more acceptable than negativity.  I try to look at the better side of my perception of folks or organizations that they are doing the right thing.  Of course, miscreants and ne’er-do-wells are pretty much self-explanatory and exceptions to the rule.  Giving a benefit of a doubt will delay any negative judgements you would, otherwise, jump to conclusions over.  For example, my not leaving this country after the 2016 election has somehow changed my perception of my ability to recognize when you should hold them vs when you should fold them.  The 2020 election hasn’t changed anything because we are still trying to tolerate the effects of the 2016 election.  The results of the 2016 election have changed history and placed our future into a negative effect.  Any mistakes, screw-ups or wrong moves I have done in my life that created such negativity is miniscule compared to the clusterf**k of today’s Republican Party.  What if, heaven forbid, Biden lost?  There would have been a concession speech and no re-counts, which are going on in Arizona, as we speak and it’s been 6 f***ing months.  It is now Liberals vs Former Conservatives.  The latter of the 2 is going through an identity crisis and are about to wander through the desert for the next 40 years.

I grew up as a Minnesota DFL’er, but was unaware of it at the time since Republicans were fine by me.  As kids, the only difference between the 2 parties were their mascots.  We had a lot in common, after all, we grew up just down the road from Gus Hall, the leader and Chairman of the Communist Party USA.  I would have picked a totally different species though, such as an Eagle vs Turkey or Adonis vs Killer Clown or Ford Shelby vs Ferrari. Nowadays, Donkeys vs Elephants have turned into Us vs Them.  We are stymied in this country as we have one Party busy with their sleeves rolled up and their fingernails dirty and the other Party doing their best to stop them, but seem to be distracted with all the factions they have split into.  I believe that the “Thems” have no clue as to what each is doing.  They remind me of Area 51 quonset huts, each one unknown to the others.  So where does that leave us?  We are a fractured country with all sorts of vulnerabilities in the midst of an unforgiving pandemic.

There is some good news though with the other pandemic as things are loosening up a little, though, not without a little intrepidation.  Confusion has infiltrated the ranks and some folks have become even more confrontational.  I happened to catch a video of former child actor Ricky Schroder, who was trying to enter a Los Angeles Costco without his mask and things quickly got out of hand.  The store employee tried to explain that the mask mandate has not been altered in every Costco location including that particular store.  I have to admit, the store employee gets high marks from me for maintaining his cool.  Schroder was quite adamant and demanded that he wanted his membership dues back, which he got, and turned the video on himself so he could tell the world that they should also give up their membership.  This pandemic sure has created a lot of strange bedfellows.  I’m sure glad I didn’t pay to see any of his movies as I really don’t have the energy to go schizo like he did and demand a refund!  Stay tuned…..!
