Regular Joes

What a relief!  It’s been over 6 months since election day and of the 100+ political pages I have produced, not a single one was written that castigated the administration-elect/administration.  They, in essence, are a complete reversal of the previous administration which had been comprised of a Top Gun and his Hot Shots.  Everyone from Trump on down through his family, advisors and staff were akin to game show hosts.  They took their cue from their leader and became Reality TV Clowns in their own rite, reminiscent of the “Keystone Cops” of the silent film era, except, not so silent.  I find that I don’t have to take deep breaths anymore and sigh over news reports about the present administration like I had to with the previous one on a daily basis.  Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!

Why is that?  There are those right extremist wannabe news outlets that chastise the present White House occupants for being so droll and below the radar, so much so, that someone should go over there to check for a pulse, or any other signs of life.  Sorry to disappoint them, but the 3-ring circus & clown corral have left the White House for the Pink House and points beyond.  Unfortunately, they didn’t take their garbage with them, since they are still scattered around the House and Senate.  Most of the space of the last 4 years were taken up by a blown up king kong sized ego of the former occupant and his minions.  We were inundated by their antics on a regular scale.  We don’t have that anymore, not because they are laying low, it’s because they are in the normal ego range functioning under a normal working agenda, not playing golf and calling attention to themselves by seeing who can out spotlight who at any given moment  Unfortunately, that Trump torch has been passed to his breed of ne’er-do-wells that keep on stumbling over themselves like the real life keystone cops that they are.  Everyday, there’s a “Pub” in the news, jockeying for position and turning heads in their direction so they can soak up their 15 minutes of fame.  It’s become a game for me now as I want to be fair and show no favorites.  As I mentioned a few months back, I am an equal deployment opportunity antagonist.  I treat them all fair and square, take each in turn and leave no turn unstoned.  Yes, it is fun writing about these clowns and I don’t just relegate my degradation to “Pub” politicos, any one of those non-office holders are also fair game and there are so many to choose from.  That’s what I like about this hobby.  Like my music, I used to learn how to play a new song on my guitar or keyboards everyday and always felt good about accomplishing that.  Now, most days, I wonder what I am going to sit down in the evening and write about to add to the, At Sullies Place repertoire.  I realize this is not a high stakes adventure and a matter of life or death, but there is an element of drama.  I pride myself on coming up with something ahead of everyone else so that you will hear about it first right here.  Or, even better, something that isn’t even in the news at the time, but shows up a couple days after I had already denigrated about it.  You know, like something about Trump and his cohorts off to jail to serve ten to life.  That’s the downside of the Biden Administration, no controversy, no scandals, no self combustion, no spotlights and no circus clowns, just a bunch of regular Joes!  Stay tuned…..!

Uncommon Failure

Okay, I’ll let you all be the judge and jury of the following statement that I came across that was buried in the dark corners of the internet where I usually find my strange and highly unusual articles of confoundation.  This is a Los Angeles Times letter to the editor ( https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2021-04-12/huntington-beach-ku-klux-klan ) about the “burb” of Huntington Beach.  Headline: “Common ground with the Ku Klux Klan?  Huntington Beach has a problem.”  The letter starts off with, “As Huntington Beach was preparing for a Ku Klux Klan rally and, in response, a Black Lives Matter counter protest, police department spokesman Lt. Brian Smith said,” now here’s the kicker, “We hope that they can utilize events like this as a means to find the common ground and work together for the common goal.”  ???  I thought I would substitute the usual WTF that usually follows an incredulous statement like that with question marks.  I never pass up the ...

The New Cult

Past cult leaders the likes of Sun Myung Moon, David Koresh and Jim Jones, exemplary role models for “Moonies”, “Davidians” and “Peoples Templers” are said to have had a charismatic  gift of gab and were able to ensnarl a whole slew of followers into their realm.  They, of course, have since passed into the great beyond.  Moon was 92 when he died of pneumonia, Korish was 33 when he and his zealots died with guns blazing and Jones 47, died with his lemmings from a bad dose of kool-aid.  There was a rumor going around that his last words were, “Hey, did someone spike this stuff!”   Like Stalin, Hitler and Atilla the Hun, these folks had the innate ability to sway the masses.  To this day, I still can’t figure out how.  I was more enamored with garden slugs than those “coots.”  Nowadays, we have a new malady in our midst, an anomaly if you will, who not only doesn’t have a gift of gab, but cannot even enunciate words correctly, uses alternative facts...
